


Elder Nazerine R. Burney, Sr. is a native of Gainesville, FL. He
was reared in the Church of God by Faith by his late parents,
Deacon Isaac and Mother Maggie Burney. In 1965 he received
salvation at a tent revival in Tallahasee, FL where he was
attending college. In 1968, Elder Burney was called into the
ministry and was ordained in August of 1971 through the
Church of God by Faith, Inc.
In December 18, 1970 Pastor Burney married Mrs. Betty Jean
Turner of Abbeville, Georgia who was also a part of the “by
Faith” family. She was the 5th of 14 children born to Deacon
Raleigh Turner and the late Katie Turner. To this union, four
children were born: Elder Robert Burney, Jr., Sister Sarah
Warren, Minister Raleigh Burney, and Brother Daniel Burney.
God has blessed Elder Burney’s family to be instrumental in the
body of Christ as well.
Elder Burney has worked in many capacities of the Church of
God by Faith. Before pastoring, he was under the leadership of
Bishop James McKnight, Sr. He has served as a Sunday
School Teacher and Christian Board of Education President. In
1971, he was then appointed as Assistant Pastor to Palatka
Church of God by Faith under District Elder James Williams. In
August of the same year, he was appointed as the Pastor of
Jeruselum COGBF. He was appointed back to Palatka COGBF
in 1977. Elder Burney pastored both churches for several years.
In 1990, Elder Burney was appointed to Hawthorne Church of
God by Faith. Under his leadership, God blessed these
churches to prosper spiritually and many souls were added.
Pastor Burney has built new sanctuaries and made
improvements to the existing churches were he served.
